J-Smooth over at HipHopMusic.com linked to a story about a meeting in Harlem between Bill Clinton and local bloggers. A lot has been made about the fact that there was an underwhelming representation of people of color in the meeting.

Bill Clinton is a very powerful man that works in the Black Mecca of this country. Surely, a man of his power could have tried to diversify the panel that he met. He has always been an advocate of diversity and I think that he still is. So, what happened?

Then again, the argument can be made that Clinton was simply trying to meet with some of the bloggers that interested him the most. Maybe the bloggers were selected by his staff and Clinton was as surprised as I was.

Ampersand chimes in with the following quote:

“What happened is that there was a high-profile event in which a lot of liberal bloggers were honored with the chance to have lunch with one of the most influential Democrats in the country, and it was an all-white event. In the most literal sense, people of color were not at the table. That is what matters. “
