Yes to Wimps, No to the Sky Cafe

Ok, let me say this first – Wimp’s has some of the best pastries around. My family is a big fan of the bread pudding and the sweet potato pie. I go around once a week to pick up my fix … and it’s so worth it.

But whatever you do, do NOT approach those stairs near the back. Just stay away. Why? Because those stairs lead to the Sky Cafe and Martini Bar, where I was a victim of the worst service that I’ve ever received in a restaurant. Period.

See, they have this funny idea that one person should be the bartender, get the orders, and do all sorts of other miscellaneous tasks that keep him away from us, the customers. Now the place is quite small – it probably seats about 40-50 people. But wow, I waited for service. And waited. And waited.

I arrived before everyone else, so I wanted to get some drinks at the bar. After about 15 minutes, I was able to flag down someone that could help me. That was an unfortunate precursor to the rest of the night, because we waited about 15 min to 30 min for EVERYTHING – silverware, menus, napkins, you name it. The night was finished off by us asking for dessert and waiting about an hour for it. Nope, we didn’t get it. Nothing.

The worst part came at the end. When I arrived early, I told the waiter that we would be splitting checks. Well, it turns out that he thought it’d be a better idea if we all just ‘figured it out’ and paid one bill. After some heckling, we finally did get separate bills. But why should I have to go through all of that for them to honor their word.

I’m not trying to be harsh, but … wait, yes I am. Wimp’s Sky Cafe is ridiculously bad. You can go there to get your cakes and pies, but keep it moving after that.

  • Wimps is incredibly overrated & overprice, Make My Cake blows them away in every category. I too have been to the “sky bar” and the service is horrible. I was there and asked, “what’s the house coffee”? The waitress shrugged her shoulders and said, “it’s just coffee”. I politely said, “Okay….is it light? full bodied?….you know…”? She got annoyed and repeated, “it’s coffee coffee”. My date and I simply got up and left.

That Oprah recognition was the worse thing that could have happened to Wimps as now they think their “doo-doo” don’t stink. If your sweet tooth is calling and you’re near Wimps?…walk across the street to the Jucie Bar. You’ll get a healthier pastry or cake with better ingrediants at half the price.
