Follow up: Miracle on 138th Street

From NY1:

The line stretched for blocks from Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard and 136th Street Thursday as hundreds of people waited in the cold for much needed food.

The Feed the Children organization gave out about 643,000 pounds of food, personal care items, and even toys with the help of volunteers from The Abyssinian Baptist Church and Development Corporation and the NBA Players Association.food1600.jpg

“This is the largest food drop that we’ve done in the United States,” explained Larry Jones of Feed the Children. “They’re thirty trucks here.”

From 136th Street all the way up to 139th Street, there were different stations, and the people on the line stop at each station, pick up their items, and move on to the next one.

And the help is much needed. The latest statistics from the City Coalition Against Hunger show an estimated 1.2 million New Yorkers may not know where their next meal is coming from.
