Updated: 125th Street to be Rezoned?
Bloomberg said master plans will be released this year for the redevelopment of the South Bronx and the Willets Point section of Queens, where the New York Mets baseball team now plays and where a new stadium for the ball club is being built. Bloomberg said proposals will be made to rezone 125th street in Harlem, Coney Island and the Jamaica section Queens to promote new business development.

A reader asked:
not knowing that much about these things…what exactly will that mean for us? the rezoning of 125th? what will it allow for that currently isnt allowed for? or do we not know that yet?
The answer to your question is that he is mainly referring to the Columbia Extension Project being marketed as the “River to River Study”:
The rezoning of Frederick Douglass Boulevard (Eighth Avenue) is also part of this project affecting a 44-block area of south-central Harlem. The city has approved the upzoning of this corridor to introduce stores, restaurants, theaters and other amenities to the neighborhood.

Not sure what it means, perhaps that kooky law where no alcohol can be served within 200′ of a church is being revoked? I never understand that Harlem zoning law anyway or if it was ever followed.
The Den is adjacent to a Church for example and I know numerous other examples of this law never really being enforced.
NAT – maybe everyone who wants to buy in the new harlem should have to pass a test. first question is gonna be “which major street in harlem is named after MLK”…
(please dont take this the wrong way i am gently teasing you, not looking to piss anyone off)
NAT,
As you know, Harlemites are welcome to buy apartments in these new buildings, harlemites are welcome to open busineses in the rezoned developments.
As you know, the buildings being erected in Harlem are not for the current Indigenous Harlemites, they are for the ‘New Comers’ and the Rezoning is to ensure that the new people remain politically sound.
This rezoning is nothing more than Gerrymandering
This is just my 2 cents
thanks!
well i think that the city website has a proposed plan grouping harlem into color coded zones….if you google “125th street rezoning” you should get it within the first couple hits. it’s actually been around for many months. unless this is a whole new proposal
