AJ, you're probably long gone from this comments thread by now but I'm curious to know more about the unit you bought and whether you intend to make this your primary residence. I live closer to Convent, am just now starting to think about buying, and would love to stay in the neighborhood. No offense, but IMO west of Amsterdam in the 140s is like . . . whoa! I never figured anybody would want to pay half a million bucks to live across the street from Hamilton Palace. I'd love to hear more about your decision to buy.

I think they're actually doing a reasonably good job on the development. Same guys who did Schaeffer Landing in Brooklyn. Price is as cheap as they come anywhere in Manhattan, and several units were sold just recently after several months of no sales. I'm just waiting for them to finish the darn thing so I can move in!

Cheap as in price, I think, though recently prices rise a bit. People seem to be snatching these up now.

I live a few blocks away. And a long time resident. The area is actually Hamilton Heights and not Harlem. An important distinction for those concerned with accurate New York City History. The site was a former synagogue designed by Stanford White. It was abandoned for many decades until some church took it over. The current development is as cheap as they come.

#2 FYI. Washington Heights starts at 155th street, ends at Dyckman.

http://www.hamiltonheights.org/map.htm

That area is typically defined as Washington Heights, however they couldn't pull the prices they want if they claimed it as such.

That area is known as Hamilton Heights an has been known as that for a long time.
We have been jaded by news articles that every thing north of 125th, north, south east and west is designated as Harlem.
The original boundaries of Harlem was and still is 110th to 155th st from river to river and the boundary from 110th west was Morningside Park.
