Jasmine Guy Raises Cane in Harlem

guy.jpgJasmine Guy, the actress best known for her portrayal of Whitley Gilbert on “A Different World,” will be in Harlem “Raisin’ Cane” for one day only at the Apollo Theater, Sunday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m.

“Raisin’ Cane” tours through mid-March and captures the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance by drawing on the words and poems and songs and speeches of people like Countee Cullen and Zora Neale Hurston, Father Divine and Claude McKay. Combined with photos and paintings of and by the artists, with a jazz score by Avery Sharpe (who performs live with his trio), the play by Harry Clarke strives to capture that vibrant time between World War I and the Depression when Harlem was in full bloom. “

  1. Dear Ms. Guy:

Congratulations on your recent success with your book and ‘Raisin Cane’ tour! I know you’re teaching in the process of displaying your talents and skills, etc. Following you through all of your career-know that I’m personally very proud of you. I have always looked upon you as daughter I’d like to have had! You may remember me as the aging old man who gave/sent you a personal envelope containing special music and photos, etc.

Here’s hoping I’ll get that second chance. As a performer myself from the old school of Doo-Wop music (Ex-Platter) I just love to rekindle treasured memories of our seasoned fans.

I als have a very special story about the Platters and the Tuskegee Airmen that needs to be told. It needs to be especially done by professional black directors and producers to maintain it’s originality and black flavor in the positive.

Please visit my website @ http://www.thegoldenplatter.com
or call me @ (252) 823.3740 when your schedule permits. Take care and I’ll keep you in my prayers and pray that you continue to be blessed with more blessing of abundance!

    Your Fan, Uncle Milton
