Jelani Cobb, author of To the Break of Dawn: A Freestyle on the Hip Hop Aesthetic (New York University Press, 2007), explores the ways in which the blues has influenced the lyrical structures of hip hop, informed its themes, and become a cornerstone for the most popular music of our time. Presented in conjunction with Black Style Now.

    If I was in an elevator with Robert Moses and the Grand Wizard of the KKK, and had a gun in my hand with two bullets? I’d shoot Robert Moses twice!

  • I would also encourage folks to check out the Robert Moses exhibit at this same museum. Moses had a lasting impact(good and bad) on the cultural landscape of all NYC (harlem included)…
