Cafe Largo Debate Continues

On February 22, 2007 by D. Bell

Despite the many positive reviews posted by patrons of Cafe Largo and their new ventures Vinegar Hill and Tres Pasos, a few readers still questioned the “real” reason Cafe Largo closed and stayed closed for so long. The owners were kind enough to respond personally:

To answer some of the questions posed…we will have a website as soon as the restaurant opens. We are in the process of submitting our menus and photos of the finished space to several websites. The reason we closed was to expand and renovate. There are many reasons why the renovation took longer than expected, too many to go in to. End result is that after a lot of hard work and patience, my husband and I have opened two of four spaces that we are proud of and we look forward to being a part of the community (a community in which my husband grew up in and holds dearly) for many years to come. Anyone with questions can email me directly at cafelargo@aol.com. Peace and be well.

    Raul,
I’m sorry for whatever has happened to make you harbor such resentment towards my husband. I do wish you would find a way to deal with it directly with us instead of making up lies and posting them on webistes. It’s not fair to those people in the neighborhood that count on honest and fair feedback to be posted about their neighborhood businesses. Especially businesses started by people from the neighborhood for the neighborhood. Please feel free to contact us directly at cafelargo@aol.com.Peace and be well.

Never been to the old Largo but I give’em major points for stepping up and responding, making their presence known. They care. I’m going to try the place the first week based entirely on their authentic and sincere concern.

Counter this with last week’s UptownFlavor featured about that NYT piece wherein Sheron, the woman behind Mo’Bay’s ripped Black folks for not tipping A(my opinion) I’ll never go to her place again.

I’m a business owner and I appreciate the Largo folks stepping up because they’re saying the UptownFlavor audience matters and is worthy of our personal attention and response. That goes a long way with me and they are now on my radar whereas they were not before.

I do wish their Site was up though because the menu’s important (for diet and budgeting reasons), also an events calander…live entertainment? promotions, etc? Hope UptownFlavor does a follow up after the place opens.
