The Emperor has no…caviar?
Last week Harlem Girl inquired in the comments section of the Upscale Bistro thread:
Did Emperor’s Roe close?
Well, Harlem Girl I’m sorry to say that it looks like Emperor’s Roe has gone the way of (allegedly) Harlem Grill and (temporarily) Native. Visit our favorite pet detective, Harlem Fur, for the scoop on what went down. After less than a year, it seems that they have closed the retail location but are still taking online orders. As for the rumor that they have been closed since September, it seems that they were still hosting private events as recent as January of this year.
Everyone saw it coming: Emperor’s Roe closed [Harlem Fur]

David Mills (one of the owners) is a real nice guy but he and his partners were simply did not know what they were doing. It was a poor fit for the local demographics, never stood a chance.
A 101 Example? If you’re going to call yourself “upscale”, caviar and all that, do you think your establishment might have air conditioning? Who opens a place without A/C?
The irony in that is they were clearly, grossly underfunded, yet hyping the “upscale” nature of their place, now that’s a joke. Basic whole in the wall fish joints have A/C….
However if you’re feeling nostalgic for Emperor’s Roe and were not able to go there the NANOSECOND it was open? Check out this commercial for Black woman owned Sugar Hill Ale, the end is in Emperor’s Roe.
