NEW PUBLIC ART IN THE BRONX
Panel discussion and Reception
Friday, April 13, 6 pm

This panel will address the commissioning of public art in the Bronx as a means to community revitalization and engagement. Among the projects feature include the new 167th Street subway station designed by Carol Sun, a housing project by WHEDCO introduced by Sam Marks and several projects commissioned by Percent for Art presented by Catherine Behrend. Moderated by Holly Block.

FAMILY DAY BUILDING GREEN WORKSHOP
(Great for kids age 6 to 13)

Saturday, April 14, 2007, 12 – 2 pm
Admission: one shoebox

Through sculpture and assemblage kids and their adult companions will explore what makes housing a home and will have the opportunity to design their own house incorporating green roofs and other sustainable practices. You will also learn about the New Housing New York project, a sustainable and affordable housing design under development in the Bronx. Organized in collaboration with Center for Architecture Foundation.

UNDERSTANDING HOUSING POLICIES IN THE BRONX

Organized and moderated by Allison Jaffe, this panel will bring together public figures and community leaders in a discussion about the impact of the ongoing development of the South Bronx. With Joan Byron, Director, Sustainability and Environmental Justice Initiative; Pratt Center for Community Development; Eduardo LaGuerre, Executive Director; Neighborhood Association For Intercultural Affairs; Linda Cunningham, Artist and Partner in Bronx Bricks, LLC.

Here and Elsewhere features a range of work by 36 artists from throughout the metropolitan area, all of whom have participated in the most recent incarnation of Artist in the Marketplace (AIM) at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, one of the most celebrated and competitive programs for emerging artists in the country. The title alludes to both the global reach of the program, now in its 27th year, and to the fluidity of art practices in today’s global life.
