Why is Harlem always stuck with crap like a prisoner re-entry housing. Aren’t we trying to improve this neighborhood. Why can’t they put this on the Upper East Side or Greenwich Village. Enough already!
they’re just putting them back where they came from to begin with. let’s not be naive.
I’m not naive. But there are some of us that are really trying to change this beautiful neighborhood full of history and gorgeous stately homes. By fulling the area with prisoners again we risk falling back to the “old times…”
ha…i would tend to think that this complex will not be populated with folks with a high propensity of recommiting their crimes. believe me, if it’s come this far in the development process certain checks and stop gap measures have been put in place to make sure it’s not detrimental to changing the “beautiful neighborhood”.also, i think critics are operating under the assumption that all these prisoners are of the violent offender elk. believe it or not, you can go to jail for a myriad offenses (fraud, perjury, etc). it’s not all Law & Order perps living here.if law offenders have paid their debt to society and have shown a consistent pattern of rehabilitation what makes them less deserving of living in West Harlem.reality check, you know how many guys live in the neighborhood that have done jail time and YOU don’t know about it? you can either be hyper vigilant in a state of constant fear or accept that there are dangerous people everywhere and you do what you can to within reason to protect yourself.
i read an article a few weeks ago about how the lexington corridor from 118 to 126 has the highest density of felons than any other part of the city. these are convicted felons now back out on the street and returned to their previous residences.
i would imagine a development like this would actually be to try to supply a better environment for those transitioning back into the real world in some kind of productive way. for some reason that strikes me as better than just going back and hanging out infront of the pathmark every day and night.
