In celebration of the 82nd Birthday of Malcolm X, the Malcolm X Museum presents “Writing is Fighting: The Impact of Malcolm X Upon Black Writers.” A distinguished intergenerational panel of black writers will discuss the impact of Malcolm X on their writing, as well as on writers of his time and those of today. The panel will also discuss the influence that black writers had on Malcolm X El Hajj Malik El Shabazz. A reception will follow the discussion. Larry Ridley and the Jazz Legacy Ensemble present a tribute to three of the truly legendary vocalists in the hisory of jazz. Performers include, on vocals: Jackie Jones; piano: Richard Wyands; tenor/soprano sax and flute: Doug Harris; violin: Krystle Ford; drums: Greg Buford; Latin percussion: Jaime Benitez. This program is made possible with funding from The New York State Music fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
