Ask Doctor V about Autism

On July 24, 2007 by D. Bell

This week on “Keeping it Real”, Reverend Sharpton and I will discuss Autism. To aid us in our discussion about Autism we will have celebrity guest Tisha Campbell live on air with us to speak publicly for the first time about Autism in her family.

Autism is a heterogeneous disorder that affects 1 in 150 children and typically presents before the age of 3. Autism impairs a person’s ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe.

There is no cure or specific treatment for it, but researchers are working hard to elucidate what causes Autism and how to treat it successfully. Some think vaccines cause autism while others believe it may be due to a problem during pregnancy and birth. Tune in this Wednesday at a special time 2pm EST to join the discussion. You won’t want to miss it. Click here to listen now or tune in to your local station.
