Toby Love and DJ Lobo

Lovely Highbridge Park will be undulating with the sounds of crunkchata tonight as Toby Love and DJ Lobo take the stage for a free show.

A former member of Latin American boy-band Aventura, Bronx-born Toby Love is a pop idol who is spreading his wings. His self-titled 2006 solo debut takes the bolero-influenced romance of the bachata style and gives it a more urban, R&B-tinged flavor. He calls his sound “crunkchata” and cites artists like Michael Jackson and R. Kelly as inspiration. Combining the elegant, guitar-based ballads of bachata with the club friendly beats of R&B seems like a no-brainer on paper, but it takes a skilled young star like Love to pull it off.

Dominican-born DJ Lobo, a.k.a. “El Heavy Hitter,” spins the hottest meringue, reggaetón and salsa weekly on New York’s Mega 97.9, as well as rocking blowout parties all over the tri-state area.
