The NYC Opera for all is one of the newest cool things I’ve gotten to enjoy in the city. Earlier this year I got to see Madamme Butterfly. It was my first time at the opera. I had a blast of a time. They actually had a movie screen that came down before the performance. It had a little behind-the-scenes montage where they briefly had the actors talking about their characters and various production details. I don’t think this common at most opera shows but i surmise it was in an attempt to connect with the younger audiences who may not know the history behind the stories or the cultural significance. They also played clips during the intermission. I really enjoyed and thought it did the job. PS-The show had supertitles (kind of like subtitles but above the stage)! I honestly did not know this coming in…lol. I thought everyone just knew italian or read the libretto in english beforehand. You learn something everyday!
