There is absolutely nothing to do this weekend

Gabriel Serpa. “Gancho” 24″ x 36″ Oil on linen. 2007.
Just kidding! If you’re up there in your apartment deciding whether it’s going to be a laundry/groceries or a paint-town-red weekend, here’s a nudge in the red paint direction. As always, there are lot of things happening in the city this weekend, uptown and elsewheres.
- artHarlem’s HOAST 2007: The Third Annual Harlem Open Artist Studio Tour. We’ve been pubbing some of the events, but there’s a whole lot of other stuff going on. Take a gander at the schedule and support your local art scene. For free! One of the artists includes Gabriel Serpa, a contributor to this blog. His work will be at his studio at 615 West 143 St. #44.
- openhouse New York: It’s your chance to get inside New York’s buildings, at no price at all except your time and willingness to get there. The Morris-Jumel Mansion will be open as part of the weekend.
- Mike Feller’s Inwood Nature Walk: If you prefer the outdoors, try the nature walk with Mike Feller, Chief Naturalist for Parks & Recreation, and learn about Inwood Hill Park’s ecosystems.
- New Yorker Festival: Tickets might still be available for some events at the door.
- New York Film Festival: It’ll still be around after the weekend’s over, but now’s as good a time as any to check out the film fest’s many offerings.
- People en Español’s Fiesta: Enjoy fall’s early days at an all-day free event in Central Park, featuring performances by Kat DeLuna, Ivy Queen, Juan Vélez, the Ballet Hispánico, the Capoeira Center of New York, etc. etc.
- Feel the Noise: Of course, it won’t be the best movie you ever see, but the Jennifer Lopez-produced movie stars Omarion as an aspiring rapper from Harlem who gets sent to Puerto Rico.
- Notorious B.I.G. Casting Call: If you yourself are an aspiring rapper who shares a resemblance to Biggie Smalls, try out in the open casting call for the new movie about his life.
