AM New York profiles West Harlem in its City Living Section. Some of the pictures are cool and there’s some conversation about gentrification that is threaded throughout the piece. Do you think this is a balanced profile? Do you agree with their eating and nightlife suggestions?

Don’t forget BODY. The hottest spot in West Harlem!
Set to become the next trendiest hotspot, BODY is raising the bar in this emerging neighborhood by offering a considerable space with three rooms, three vibes and three scenes outfitted with the latest technology in lights, sights and sounds. Completely designed with events in mind, BODY can host everything from cocktail receptions, fundraisers, and corporate events to holiday parties, film premiers, photo shoots and much more. The interior bi-level floors can either be segregated with separate entrances or connected to accommodate larger parties of up to 600 people.
I thought the article was good. Finally, finally, finally, West Harlem is being recognized. Oftentimes, we are called everything but Harlem. I congratulate the people of West Harlem who have fought to make it a better community. The best is yet to come in spite of the expansion of Columbia.
West Harlem ROCKS!!!
The Hamilton Grange move has been on the city’s “to do” list for quite a while now. Not sure what is taking it so long.
Besides the nightlife (River Room Rocks!) it was a good profile. West Harlem has come a long way and it is one of the most beautiful and historic neighborhoods in all NYC. One thing they did not mention was the Hamilton Grange moving to Historic St. Nicholas Park. The Grange is currently squeezed in between 2 buildings. Soon they are planning to move and reconstruct it to its original grandeur in St. Nicholas Park. Can’t wait for that!
Ha…regarding the mural. First let me say that the picture doesn’t do it any justice. It was sprayed on by a very good friend of mine and it actually contains a very empowering quote by Malcolm X. Any graffitti artist will attest to the “dopeness” of it. There’s a reason why it hasn’t been “tagged” and damaged by anyone else. I invite anyone to check it out in person. It’s on 134th Street bet Broadway and Amsterdam. Much closer to Broadway.
And regarding the profile I too am very dissappointed at the nightlife they presented. I mean they didn’t even touch what is perhaps one of the hottest spots in Manhattanville (dare i say the whole upper westside)…Hudson River Cafe! They also forgot Picante, Blue Butterfly, Baton Rouge, The River Room. Anyway, if you want something done right…right!
Let’s hope they paint over that God awful mural, Malcolm must be rolling in his grave! I say Go Columbia Go!
The profile was pretty good, but the nightlife spots was lacking.
But you know all of this will change if Columbia gets its way and that will be a shame.
