The Community Boards Have Their Say on the 125th Street Rezoning

On December 6, 2007 by

There’s  a pretty good discussion on UPTOWNflavor in an earlier post  about the 125th St Rezoning. Well, there are a couple updates now that the plan is officially in the public review process. Boards 9, 10 and 11 have all voted. Boards 9 and 11 voted in favor of the rezoning with modifications. Board 10 voted against the rezoning with modifications.  Boards 9 and 11 are essentially saying they will support the plan if x, y and z are fulfilled. Board 10 is saying they  will not support the plan unless there is x, y and z. Though Board 10 differs from the other boards in terms of approval vs. disapproval, it is really just a different way to bring across the same idea, which is that while the idea of a rezoning is welcome, the plan must do certain things in order to ensure that it benefits the Harlem community.

This article over at Columbia Spectator talks about the the different demands from the community boards and how they differ and how they are alike.

The next step for the 125th Street Rezoning is to head over for review by the Manhattan Borough Board and the Manhattan Borough President. There is a concurrent 30-day review process for that.
