Is there any truth to the Greek concept of tragedy, in which cycles of order and disorder are governed by fate? Are we somehow complicit in the disintegration and violence that is always happening somewhere else? This radical re-envisioning of the Greek classic, set in the imagined wreckage of Penn Station, integrates testimony from survivors of recent civil wars in Sierra Leone and Liberia and asks just that. Director and adapter Alfred Preisser is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of The Classical Theatre of Harlem. Most recently, Alfred directed Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity starring André De Shields at The Duke on 42nd Street. Other credits for CTH include Melvin Van Peebles’ Ain’t Supposed To Die A Natural Death (moved to Club T-New York, now on tour) and King Lear, which also starred Mr. De Shields and went on to break box office records at the Folger Theatre in Washington D.C. The design team for TROJAN WOMEN includes Troy Hourie (Set Designer), Kimberly Glennon (Costume Designer) and Aaron Black (Lighting Designer). Musical Director Kelvyn Bell will provide original music, and longtime CTH collaborator Tracy Jack ( Ain’t Supposed to Die a Natural Death, Black Nativity) will be the choreographer. The cast for TROJAN WOMEN includes Zenzele Cooper, Michael Early, Christel Halliburton, Zainab Jah, Ty Jones, Linda Kurlioff, Amanda Marie, Lizan Mitchell, Sipiwe Moyo, Alexander Mulzac, Angela Polite, Brandi Rhonme, Sui-Lin Robinson, Kiat Sing Teo, Nabil Vilas and Tryphena Wade.
