Sorry it took so long to respond. I was surfing the other night and came across this website. Indeed, it is the same Spanky we knew. I was devastated by his senseless murder. Spanky was a big brother who brightened the darkest day. The last time I saw him on 115th Street we both fought for the attention and love of an elderly resident, who lived on the same street. She disarmed both of us by declaring, “You’re both my sons.” We laughed, hugged and parted. Three days later, he was gunned down. I was polishing my manuscript when he died and vowed to pay tribute to him in my own way.

What do you know about Willie Spanky Woods. That was my boy. I current reside in Tampa, Fl but use to live in Harlem, NY. I have been trying to call him since thanksgiving 2007. When I returned to NY to visit in March 08 I found out that he was murdered in his building on 115th st. Is this the same Spanky Woods that you dedicated a chapter too? I am still in shock because he wouldn’t hurt a fly. He would give you the shirt off his back. Like many other men he was flawed but he had a big heart. May he rest in peace!
