Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks Duke it Out on 145th

Although we were one of the first blogs on the scene of the coffee wars as the black gold increasingly became a prized commodity along 145th Street, we couldn’t have predicted that this would happen.

In a move that could only be described as “checkmate!” by Dunkin Ds, they are planning to open a third location along the 145th corridor.  The first location opened near 8th Avenue.  Later a second location cropped up between Lenox and 7th and now a third location is about to open up only blocks away on St. Nicholas.  Oversaturating the market? It’s like they taken a scalding cup of coffee and thrown it in the face of the coffee elite…take that Starbucks!

  • @nutsandbolts the place used to be a former bar and chinese restaurant. the restuarant was inside the place. I think they lost their liquor license because of all of the drugs there were being sold outside of the store and the amount of dealers that hung out there.

I am also sorry to see another DD in the hood. *sigh*

  • Jeez, can’t someone open a diner or a real restaurant there instead of another coffee/donut place? We need some food that’s not fried chicken, some place nice to go and have a meal with friends. I’m amazed that restaurants are not moving into the neighborhood.

  • Dunkin Donuts? Why not? It’s not like Black people care about their health and nutrition, get real! On the whole they don’t and everybody knows it, the proof is in the statistics.

I think it’s great. Uptown Flavor is the site that promoted heavily Quiznos coming to Harlem. Quiznos has a history of with-holding from the public the amount of fat, saturated fats, etc. in their foods, this is well documented all over the internet and was documented on Uptown Flavor as well

I say Uptown Flavor should celebrate the Dunkin Donuts with as much fanfare as they did Quiznos! In fact, let’s stop fooling around here, let’s celebrate all the fast food dives that destroy the health of Black people! Woo Hoo!

Donuts, Quiznos, Doug E Fresh Fried Foods! Love it! Destroy our health at all corners of Harlem, supported, promoted and praised by none other than Uptown Flavor! We’re Movin On Up!

  • Are you serious! Another DD? This is ridiculous. I can see the rationale…with the train station there they’ll make a killing, but not another DD. I’m just curious as to how they’re gonna dress it up. The place used to be the Jenzi lounge which I admit I never felt like going into. It just looked like a shady outfit (no disrespect). It’s just it didn’t give me the party vibe. I do think a Diner would have been perfect if they added some windows to the place so you can see inside or somethin.Man…dunkin donuts!

  • please not another chain store…the sad thing is DD’s will be packed with people. btw, does anyone know the history of that spot? I believe it was a club or something?

the Burger King opened on Bway and 141. same thing packed with people. sad because all these chains replace an authentic buisness that brought charcter to the neiborhood.

speaking of coffee, Tanto Dulce Cafe is a great new additon to the ‘hood on bway and 140.

one more thing. i cant remeber the name, but they had great sweet potato pies, over on 143 and Hamilton Place. they closed acouple of months ago. does anyone know if they have a new location?

  • Shoot- how will this affect Sugar Hill Tea and Java?

And why can’t something else besides an awful D&D move in that space? We need more than coffee in this neighborhood. How about a decent diner!?
