Just looked at the study and its based on a survey of 886 American girls. What percentage do you think were Black girls? 10%? 12%? They then go and apply the finding of these meager numbers to all Black American girls as its reported in the media. Its ridiculous. Very damaging and very scary. Obviously, we can’t ignore reproductive health issues in our community, espeicallly in our young people. But, the fact is, this kind of reporting must be looked at with a jaundiced eye. Anyway….
Got to be careful in parroting these data. More specifically, reports / reporters should state that “1 in 4 ‘sexually active’ teens” have an STD. reason: Not all teens are sexually active! This is the kind propaganda that faciltates suspect social policy in reporductive matters directed to or in specific population groups. As examples: Norplant; The eugenic ‘Krack Babies’ program whereby crack addicted women were paid to be sterilzed. BTW, have you heard such a eugenic program for the ‘meth using’ group of females?
