Eli, a graduate of Tish School of the Arts at New York University, is a long time ImageNation Filmmaker. One of his previous films INVENTOS: Hip Hop Cubano, a unique insight into the realities and politics of contemporary Cuba, premiered in Havanna, Cuba and made it’s U.S. premiere with ImageNation. HOMEGROWN: Hip-Life is a feature-length documentary that explores the history of hip-life music in Ghana with emphasis on the story of the one-time KORA Music award winners, Vision in Progress (V.I.P). Screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and Ghanaian Hip-Life artists.

Directions: From the B train, exit at the 135th Street station and walk east, away from the park, one short block across Frederick Douglas Boulevard and one normal block to Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard. From the 2 or 3 train, exit at the 135th Street station and walk west, away from the hospital, one block to Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard. Various buses also run along St Nicholas Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard (Lenox Avenue). The M2 bus runs from the East Village and stops right in front of Shrine’s door.

Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi is a film director making his mark in the international documentary scene. A graduate of UC Berkeley, he received his MA degree from NYU Tisch School of the Arts (2004). Before graduation, he won the prestigious juried Student Film-maker Award from the Pan-African Film Festival for his documentary Inventos: Hip-Hop Cubano. Eli has worked on film projects in the U.S., Europe, and India. You can also find Eli’s work in Jeff Chang’s book “Total Chaos: The Art and Aesthetics of Hip Hop” .
