Delve into the creative process and witness the evolution of Makandal during a second showing of this highly anticipated new work. Ten acclaimed actors will read the newly finished libretto by Carl Hancock Rux, immersing the audience in this richly layered story inspired by accounts of the first Haitian slave revolt.

Makandal explores themes of escape, freedom and homeland as it intertwines the struggles of refugees from Haiti, Cuba and the Dominican Republic with the journey of Haiti’s legendary folk hero Makandal. Accompanied by newly composed music by Daniel Bernard Roumain and once again set against visual design by Edouard Duval-Carrie, the showing is followed by a discussion and reception with the artists. Scheduled to premiere Fall 2009.
