It’s My Park Day and Artz, Rootz and Rhythm
All over the city, people will be hiking to their local park to pitch in at the annual “It’s My Park Day.” Residents on Edgecombe Avenue plan to plant flowers in the tree boxes lining the avenue, while The Friends of St. Nicholas Park will be doing the three Ps: painting, picking up litter and planting.
If you would like to help out at St. Nick park, meet at the 135th Street Plaza on St. Nicholas Avenue at 11am. “Its My Park Day” lasts until about 2pm. Dress in work clothes and bring a pair of gloves if you have them (gloves will be provided). There will be hats and other goodies for all volunteers, but nothing tops the feeling of doing something good for your community.
Also check out the Friends of Morningside Park who will be cleaning up their park from 10 A.M. to noon. Meet at 112th Street and Manhattan Avenue to join them. Over at Marcus Garvey Park they will be spreading wood chips and cleaning up the dog run from 9 A.M. to noon and cleaning and painting the perimeters of the recreation center from 10 AM to 1 PM. Meet them at the dog run located at 120th Street and Madison Avenue and at Pelham Fritz Recreation Center Madison Avenue at East 120 to East 124 streets.
After you’ve gone home and washed up from volunteering you can catch the tail end of the Artz, Rootz and Rhythm festival taking place on the plaza of the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Building from noon to 5:00 p.m. The festival organizers are also looking for volunteers to help out, so if you would like to get more information about volunteering call
212-410-0030 ext 212 or email arr-at-harlemaa.org.
