Baba: Black Artists’ Expressions of Father

Canvas Paper and Stone will be collaborating with The Real Dads Network to present BABA, a group show curated by Kheven LaGrone. BABA, which means “father” in several languages in Africa including Swahili, Shona, Zulu and Ndebele, brings together an eclectic mix of Black visual artists and media, including painting, ceramics, photography and mixed media. Artistic styles represented in the exhibit will range from abstract to figurative; from illustrations to sculpted felt dolls; from San Francisco to New York.

The works will be on exhibit from May 28, 2008 through June 21, 2008 at Canvas Paper & Stone Gallery, 2611 Frederick Douglass Blvd., Studio 2N (between West 139th and 140th Sts.) in Harlem.

Participating artists to date include: Perez Asante, Jason Austin, Aleathia Brown, Anthony Grimes, Karen Henderson, Cynthia Farrell Johnson, Sharon Pittman, Joseph Robinson, Malik Seneferu, Nena St. Louis, and Samuel O. Williams.
