Sounds pretty racist to me. The flyer that is…no wonder so many new comers to the Harlem don’t care about the neighborhood. Its full of mis-guided hostility like this. Sad, because there’s plenty to go around. I’ve a feeling that if harlemhomelandsecurity spent more time saving up his $$$ and applying to housing lotteries and less time trying to lay some lame guilt trip down, then he would find all of the advantages that he is decrying others for capitalizing on. Too bad…but for every harlemhomelandsecurity there are 10 of the people like me and my neighbor who saw which way the wind was blowing and took advantage of the incentive programs geared toward making Harlemites first-time homeowners. Luckily, its still not to late (check out the Delany Lofts), but soon it will be. Get over it, Harlem has been “gentrifying” since 2000.

The flyer is ridiculous. It implies that all of the people moving uptown are rich and could live anywhere they want. Nonsense. I’m sure most would rather live elswhere as a first choice but do not have that option for financial reasons resulting from the domino effect of Manhattan real estate prices. The misinformation and divisiveness in that flyer is disgusting.

Let’s not get riled-up over the rantings of this mad man who mentions,”the HISTORICAL people of Harlem”……so for his information, the people who first settled the area were definitely not black. By the way I’m also new to the neighborhood and I’m not black nor white…..so hang on fellow gentrifiers, we’ll only have to put up with this nonsense for a short while.

i guess if people call themselves gentrifiers, then of course you will go about your business as an outsider wondering why misguided people treat you as such. i am a home owner and i am black, what really gets me is how people move here but dont like it here. i find it ironic, if that was the case, move else where.

on the other hand new “gentrifiers” think that are taking over, but unfortunately black will be here, live here and remain here due to its cultural significance. so both sides should make an effort to get along.

    Anonymous,

I don’t think that anyone is calling themselves “gentrifiers”. It’s the person who made the sign who calls people “gentrifiers.”

No, Blacks WILL NOT always be here, in Harlem, in fact the Latino Hispanic population will surpass the Black population within the next 10 years (15th Congressional District).

Blacks have been and are being displaced all over America. Numerous areas of Coastal South Carolina booted Blacks when they wanted to develop golf course and resorts, in Texas and Oklahoma…land they (White people) never cared about, they cared about once it had oil.

Blacks will not always be in Harlem, and judging by how they shoot, don’t work, and beg for money? I cant’ wait for Blacks to be a thing of the pass in Harlem, like the Scandanavians, Jews, etc.

Uh-oh! I see where this is going so let’s keep it above the belt, please. We can respectfully debate on these hot button issues without demoralizing ourselves or others.
    Thanks.

Most of the “gentrifiers” are middle class blacks.

Let’s take a more 21st century view and realize what is going on here is DIVERSIFICATION.
