On Sunday June 15, 2008, beginning at 12noon, the 35th ANNUAL FATHER’S DAY SKYSCRAPER HARLEM CYCLING CLASSIC www.skyscraper-harlembikerace.com will be held around harlem’s MARCUS GARVEY PARK (madison-5th avenue, 120th-124th streets). the SKYSCRAPER attracts world class cyclists, many of whom have raced for their countries during the olympics. like the nyc marathon, new yorkers seldom win the SKYSCRAPER.

The CLASSIC is a series of races open to new york city metropolitan area residents from the age of 10 years old, and up. next is a series of races open only to members of the UNITED STATES CYCLING FEDERATION www.usacycling.org, including the SKYSCRAPER, that is 55 laps (40 miles) around the park. the 2007 SKYSCRAPER was won by AMAURY PEREZ of queens, in 1 hour 8 minutes, 59 seconds, :01 second ahead of his mengoni teamate LISBON QUENTRO also of queens. CAMIE KORNELY of ft. lee, new jersey won the women’s race in 38 minutes, 4 seconds to pedal 20 laps around the park. because so many cyclists are from outside nyc, the NYC SPORTS COMMISSION is a promotional partner. SPARTA CYCLING www.spartacycling.com is a participating partner.

The SKYSCRAPER is part of the NATIONAL SERIES USA CRITS.

Course: Flat, 4-corner .8 mile course around Mount Morris/Marcus Garvey Park (at 120-124th Streets between Madison and Fifth Avenues) in Harlem. Neutral support will be provided.

Registration: Pro-1-2 riders by invitation; online registration for other USCF races at BikeReg.com. Number pick-up opens at 10:45am and closes 30 minutes before the posted start of each field. Entries received after June 11, 2008 will be subject to a $10 late fee. Promoter reserves the right to cancel race or reduce prize list if minimum field size is not met.

Directions by Subway: 2/3 line to 125th Street. Walk South on Lenox Ave to 123rd St. Go east one block to turn 4 of the race.
4/5 and 6 lines to 125th Street. Walk West on 125th to Madison Ave. Walk South on Madison to 124th to turn 3 of the race.

Directions by Car: Marcus Garvey Park (at 120-124th Streets between Madison and Fifth Avenues), New York, NY. From Albany and points north: I-87 Deegan Expwy to Exit 3. Madison Ave Bridge to 135th St to Fifth Avenue. From Philadelphia and points southwest: I-278 Verazanno Bridge to Gowanus/Brooklyn-Queens Exwpy to Triboro Bridge and take Manhattan exit before toll booths. After toll booths take 125th St exit and head west to 5th Avenue. From New Jersey and points west: I-95 George Washington Bridge to Henry Hudson Pkwy south to 125th St exit (Exit 12). East on 125th to Fifth Avenue. Trucks must take I-87 south from GWB and follow directions from the north. From Boston and points northeast: I-95 west to I-87 south; follow directions from the north.
Ample parking on local streets.
