Fitness Programs for Adults
Walking for Fitness
April – June; September – November
Saturdays, 10:00 am – 11:15 am
No pre-registration required
Fee: $10 per class*
Bulk Class Package: $50 for 6 classes / $95 for 12 classes*
This low-impact fitness program is perfect for people who are serious about getting in shape, building muscle tone and strength, and increasing cardiovascular health while enjoying Central Park’s beautiful landscapes. Classes include a warm-up, cool-down, and stretch, and are led by certified fitness instructor Michael Gonzalez-Wallace.
Hatha Yoga
Year-Round
Sundays, 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm
No pre-registration required
Fee: $10 per class*

Learn the basics of Hatha Yoga in a peaceful, community environment with instructor Jennifer Schworm. The class begins with pranayama (breath), bringing awareness to the mind and body, then moves in to various standing and balancing asanas (poses) that further strengthen the mental-physical connection. Each class ends with a short relaxation to let the mind and body rest in total stillness. All levels are welcome, and mats are provided.

Join us for day hiking to the best trails surrounding New York City. This program includes hiking over uneven, steep terrain on marked trails to panoramic views of surrounding mountains, rivers, and valleys. Guided by experienced hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, you will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills for enjoying the woods.
Adult Climbing Instruction
April – October
Saturdays, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Pre-registration required
Fee: $200* (includes all equipment and annual pass for open climbing hours for 1 year)
Comprehensive four-session beginner’s climbing course focusing on belaying, knots, equipment, and setting up anchors. first two classes ar held at the North Meadow Recreation Center indoor climbing wall; last two classes conducted on the rocks near Central Park North.
*Program Fees: Program fees can be paid by cash, credit card, or check made out to the Central Park Conservancy/Recreation Department. Refunds can not be given. If you are unable to attend the program for which you have registered, a credit will be given for you to attend the program on a later available program date within 1 year.
Adult Fitness Programs take place at the North Meadow Recreation Center, located mid-Park at 97th Street, the hub for recreational programs and activities offered by the Central Park Conservancy. Renovated in 1997, the facility boasts a large multi-purpose room, a 20-foot indoor climbing wall, a 25-foot outdoor climbing wall, and adjacent outdoor basketball and handball courts. The Center sits at the south end of the very popular North Meadow Ballfields and serves as a logical starting point for explorations in the Park’s beautiful and more rustic north end.
