Harlem raised Immortal Technique lyrically assaults all hypocrites and um, other undesirables on his new CD The 3rd World. Immortal Technique, born as Felipe Coronel, moved with his family to Harlem from his native Peru back in the ’80s while his homeland was in the midst of a civil war. He defines himself as an Afro-Peruvian “Indio Orgulloso.”
Immortal Technique has been on the “underground” scene for close to a decade, releasing his first CD, Revolutionary Vol. 1, in 2001. Two years later he followed up with Revolutionary Vol. 2. In 2004, Immortal Technique collaborated with Mos Def and Eminem to release “Bin Laden,” a scathing song that accused the Bush administration of committing the 9/11 Twin Towers murders.
Not your run of mill rapper bragging about clothes, jewelry and strippers, Immortal Technique tackles controversial issues that range from politics to religion. He recently participated in a demonstration sponsored by the Harlem Tenants Council and has produced a provocative rap titled “Harlem Renaissance” that appears on his new CD.
