DMX Loses Harlem Brownstone over Doggie Clothes Deal

On June 26, 2008 by D. Bell

We first caught wind of DMX’s real estate troubles back in 2006, when we thought a Harlem Brownstone belonging to the deeply

troubled rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, had been sold. Apparently not. Simmons couldn’t get the proper paperwork to convert it from an SRO to market rate rentals when he first bought the home as an investment property back in 2001. According to a NY Post article, the house is set to be auctioned off on August 13, after a fraudulent transfer of ownership was discovered by a pet product line Simmons was contracted to promote.

The Post article reveals:

The sheriff’s sale should satisfy a judgment – totaling $281,000 with interest – resulting from a breach of contract lawsuit filed in 2004.

Ellenville, NY-based Amusing Diversions won the right to the judgment after doggedly pursuing the star, whose real name is Earl Simmons, for not promoting its line of dogwear.

Sources said other creditors will also have their hands out at the sale, which could reap over $1 million.
