Harlem’s Hidden Secret Revealed

On June 30, 2008 by D. Bell

TONY magazine had a article in the recent issue that listed 50 essential secrets that the guide books won’t tell you. Among them was the Black Gay and Lesbian Archive at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

WHY ESSENTIAL:
The pet project of Harlem writer and editor Steven G. Fullwood, the archive was started in 2000 to document LGBT life for people of color. And since 2004, the holdings—books, magazines, original flyers and manuscripts—have been housed in the distinguished Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, part of the NYPL system. Now anyone can explore this rarely told history.
