Rhythm and Soul Radio Tonight

2008 July 1

I’ve been meaning to write about MC Lyte for a while now, so it is pretty timely that she will be on WHCR tonight with Marko Nobles and DJ King James. With all the talk about female MCs, one of the hardest female MCs from the early days of hip hop was MC Lyte. She’s generously passed down her gift of flow to her little cousin Charles Hamilton, a Harlem resident. Listen to their duet rapped over Goapele’s “Closer.”

Check out Lyte tonight on Rhythm and Soul Radio from Midnight 2AM on WHCR 90.3FM, online at www.WHCR.org and simulcast on RhythmAndSoulRadio.com. As an added bonus, independent artist Chester Gregory will also be in the house. Chester is one of those cats who has been grinding – hard – and is slowly but surely climbing to the top. I first heard the name Chester Gregory a few years back when I was in North Carolina at the National Black Theater Festival. He was reprising his role as Jackie Wilson and was the talk of the festival. Chester Gregory has gone on to appear in a number of Broadway shows and is currently appearing in the Tony Award nominated musical CryBaby. Chester will be releasing his debut CD. “In Search of High Love” on Tuesday, July 8th. For details about the release party visit: The Urban Music Scene.

Be sure to listen tonight between 12midnight – 2AM on WHCR 90.3FM, www.whcr.org or www.RhythmAndSoulRadio.com
