What’s News? First Look at Harlem Piers Park
A reader informs us that the long awaited Harlem Piers have finally been completed. Now you have a place to stroll during the time Hudson River Cafe and some of the other ViVa restaurants are switching from their lunch or brunch to dinner. Read more after the jump:
Just so you know – the Harlem Piers park has opened across from Fairway on the Hudson River. Located on 125th to 132nd streets It looks great, although the piers are still off limits to people right now. At the water’s edge is gross new chain link fencing – ugh – we are hoping this is temporary and eventually nice railings or something will be along the river front. Rumor has it a ferry service from Fort Lee will be running to the Harlem Piers as well as regular Water Taxi service.

Cool! What is ViVa?

The park is ALMOST completed. I went by there this morning and it still is not open to the public. Here’s hoping that the chain link fence is temporary.
Good afternoon,
I chair the Committee for the Piers. We have about two weeks before a soft opening. If the public has questions please contact CB9 in West Harlem 212-864-6200. We are disseminating information every week on the progress.
Thanks
Editor: If you can share the information with us, we will pass it on to our readers. Thanks.
Any more updates on the piers? Can Savona tell us if the ugly chain link fencing is temporary? I certainly hope it is. And when will this ferry service begin to New Jersey. Sounds great. I hear a Trader Joe’s is there!
As of August 16th the park was still not open. What is going on? It is already more than a year behind schedule and another summer has almost gone by without a park.
Thanks for this info! I was scouring the net trying to see if this was open yet. Getting my rollerblades out as we speak…
Has anyone been to the pier yet? Is it open?
9/1/08: Harlem Piers park and bike path across from Fairway is NOT open.
I was there today, 9/15/08, looks beautiful but STILL closed and fenced in. I did see a homeless fellow sleeping by a planter of tall grasses. At least someone is getting to use it. Summer is officially over, this is an absolute shame.

As of Sunday 9/12, the Piers and Park is still fenced in and not opened.
I meant to say 10/12, not 9/12
