Like a Bridge Over Troubled Waters

In your hunt for luxury living in Harlem you might want to cross The Bridges off your list of places to visit. According to Paolo over on NYC the Blog and Curbed, the place is “a trainwreck.” Main issue? Location, location, location! The Bridges is located at 123rd and 3rd Avenue. According to Curbed, the developers hoped to sell the units and couldn’t attract a single buyer. Now the plan to rent is to the units – starting at $4,000 (but that is negotiable according to Paolo.)

Some of the major problems cited:

“Across the street from a firehouse (sirens all the time 24/7), HEAVY traffic both ways (CROSS TOWN on 125th and running the length of Manhattan, 24/7, The PATHMARK across the street is a homeless, bottle/can collectors magnet! Around the clock, 24/7).”

Your typical “Curbed” reader probably hasn’t been to that area, but yeah, of course, the fact that the area around 125th and Lex is one of the least attractive parts of Harlem is nothing new. And it’s not the Pathmark that attracts transients. The area was worse before Pathmark was there. It’s mostly the two methadone clinics, and the fact that it’s the first stop on the bus out of Rikers.
