I haven’t seen such nasty comments since the drummer controversy. The comments on UPTOWNflavor have gotten progressively worse, and it seems that my gentle reminders have been ignored. Therefore, comment moderation is enabled. Oh yeah, and we’ll be taking an indefinite break.
Unfortunately the baiting and flaming is coming from more than one commenter. I will not allow it to continue. If there continues to be a problem with the comments, I will consider disabling them or keeping the topics “light” enough that folks won’t getting themselves all worked up over misconstrued comments. It is possible to make your point without making personal digs at other commenters. We’ve been doing it, which was why I loosened up the comment policy. I’m not sure what has happened recently. There are other sites that encourage nasty debate between their readers. This isn’t one of them.
As a fan of Aretha Franklin, I expect people commenting on the website to show R-E-S-P-E-C-T for themselves, for the website, and for their fellow readers. The guidelines below offer a list of what makes respectable and unacceptable comments. These guidelines have been the rules of this website from day one. We appreciate you, we appreciate your intelligent debates, but we will not have this website become a hostile environment.
You might agree or disagree with this decision, but the guidelines are here to stay so please adhere to them.
GUIDELINES:
Your opinions are more than welcome, but in order to maintain the integrity of the site we ask that you be respectful and tactful in your responses and stick to the topic of the thread that you are responding to.
If your comments have been removed it was likely due to one or more of the following anti-social behaviors: trolling, flaming, or baiting, etc.
Constructive Comments:
- Constructive comments respond to the content in the post, or to a comment left by another reader.
- Constructive comments can disagree with the content in the post but they never insult the writer of the post, other commenters, etc.
- Constructive comments are usually pretty short, offer constructive criticism in a positive tone, and are open to being contradicted by other readers.
- Constructive comments are always on topic, and never contain spam or spam-like content.
Destructive Comments:
- Destructive comments insult the writer of the post, other commenters, etc.
- Destructive comments are often long, negative in tone, contain profanity, threats, or invective content.
- Destructive comments go off on tangents or go-off topic, and often contain spam or spam-like content.
- Destructive comments are almost always anonymous, and usually contain fake contact information.
