GOD NOT GUNS SABBATH AT THE RIVERSIDE CHURCH

Special Worship Service Will Culminate A Weekend of Events As The Riverside Church Observes

God Not Guns Campaign Against Gun Violence

As part of the Brady Center To Prevent Gun Violence’s national God Not Gunscampaign, Mrs. Marian Wright Edelman, New York Times Bestselling author and Executive Director of the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF), will join Reverend Dr. Brad R. Braxton, Senior Minister of The Riverside Church; Rachel Smith, Founder of God Not Guns; andJackie Rowe Adams and Jean Corbett Parker, Founders of Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E., to deliver the sermon, “Still A Vision,” during service, on Sunday, September 28, in the Nave of The Riverside Church, 490 Riverside Drive (bet. 120^th & 122^nd St.), Morningside Heights.

The God Not Guns Sabbath will mark the end of a series of events during the weekend of September 26 that include an overnight vigil at The Riverside Church on Friday at 7:00 pm and an outdoor community event on Saturday at 10:00 am on 155^thStreet and 8^th Ave.  In addition to events at Riverside, observances are being held in numerous other cities, including Washington, D.C., Stamford, Conn. Chicago, and Augusta, Ga. among others.

The Riverside Church will also be participating in a Gun Drop with other churches within the Manhattan North precinct of the New York Police Department on Saturday, October 25.

The God Not Guns Coalition is an interfaith partnership consisting of faith-based groups that promote sensible gun policies at the local, state and national levels.  The God Not Guns Sabbath takes place the last weekend of every September. On this day, Congregations across the country are asked to reflect on and respond to the epidemic of gun violence that kills nearly 30,000 Americans every year.
