We are living in a historical time, Harlem!!!  Cherish it.

A wave of jubilation is sweeping Harlem because Barack Obama has been elected president of the United States, becoming the first African-American elevated to the White House.

Thousands of people poured into the streets in raucous celebration Tuesday. Honking car horns split the night air. Hundreds of people danced in the streets, while others shed tears of joy.

The crowd included elders who grew up under segregation and young parents who brought their children to watch the historic vote on TV screens.

The response was explosive at a plaza a block from the Apollo Theater, where thousands of people had gathered.

The roar could be heard for blocks as Obama was declared the winner.
