Uptown Park Adventures
Evacuation Day on the Plantation
On Saturday, the Van Cortlandt House Museum commemorates the 225th anniversary of George Washington’s triumphant return to New York, marking the official end of the Revolutionary War. On his way down from his temporary headquarters in Newburgh, Washington spent the night in Kingsbridge at the Van Cortlandt’s house. Washington’s arrival with his mounted escort unit will be reenacted, as well as his departure for New York for the formal hand-over of Manhattan from the British, at this exciting, educational event.
Inwood Nature Walk
Mike Feller, Chief Naturalist for the Parks Department’s Natural Resources Group, will guide you through Manhattan’s last and most natural forest in Inwood Hill Park. His Autumn walks offer excellent opportunities to see migrating birds and, if conditions are right, eagles soaring overhead. Wake up early and start your Sunday right with a scenic stroll!
