“Vinegar Hill” Engine 80 & Ladder 23 Firehouse Suffers Fire

On November 29, 2008 by D. Bell

In a strange twist of fate, the Vinegar Hill fire company suffered a two-alarm fire around 7:30 p.m. Friday while they were out on a call. The firehouse is located on West 139th Street.

More than 100 firefighters worked for about two hours to get control of the blaze on the building’s second floor. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries, and the chief of Engine 80 was among the injured.

Details about the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not yet known, however it has been reported that the firehouse has wiring that is more than 100 years old. The firefighters will be assigned elsewhere for now.
