Update: Build out is coming along. Once they get the signage up I will be snapping shots.  Also some construction taking place across the street in the old produce market. Stay tuned!

Yes, I said cheesesteak as in Philly and not cheesecake as in Junior’s. I happened to notice that the bodega located on 145th and 7th Avenue (across from the now closed Pioneer) is less than half its original size. When I stepped back onto the sidewalk I saw why. They are opening a Cheesesteak Factory right next door. The sign on the door has a Queens address. I’m assuming that they are expanding. I know there have been some questions in the past about the different Cheesesteak Factories around the city.  I contacted the Chelsea location and they have blatently stated that this location is in no way affiliated with them. I’m not sure what the deal is with this location, but I’m sure one of our favorite foody sites will get to the bottom of it (hint-hint.)

I heard that back in the day(70’s) there was a shop located on Lenox Ave and 142nd that was famous for it “Philly steak” type sandwich called “MamerJammer” an overstuffed meat sandwich with cheese, onions and plenty of hot peppers, covered with BB-Q sauce.
Does any one remember this place?

A Cheescake Factory would do well in the commercial space located on the north east corner of 126th St and 5th Ave….rumor has it that an Applebees is opening in that spot.

A good Philly Cheesecake place would be wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Let’s hope it is successful and serves great food. (I had the same hope for Oklahoma BBQ but they have closed. :(

Oklahoma hasn’t closed, William. I passed by there the other day and they were open for business. I was kind of surprised myself that they are hanging in there but the neighborhood seems to like them. :-)

Thank you! This is like, 50 feet from me and I expect I’ll won’t have to know Mandarin to place my order.
