Seen in Harlem: Robert Verdi

We haven’t done one of these in a while. Friday night a friend and I were bar hopping in Harlem and popped our heads into Melba’s just to be nosy. Sitting prominently at the table front and center, with signature sunglasses on head, was Robert Verdi and friends. Unless you are a true fashionista you might not know Robert as anything other ‘that guy on all the fashion and design TV shows.’ Actually, that’s what I said, but my friend (who is spot on with recognizing celebs) knew his name was Robert and Google helped me track down his last name. Although I had my camera phone I decided to let him enjoy his meal without being disturbed by an annoying fan taking his picture.

Interestingly enough, there is a comment on the August New York Times article about the death of soul food in Harlem signed by none other than someone named Robert Verdi.

I have never been to a resteraunt in Harlem, I hope some traditional ones are left by the time I get there.

There were rumors a couple of years ago that Robert was moving into the luxury condos on 129th and Lenox (Lenox Grand), but more recent reports show that he is actually still living downtown.
