Inauguration Watch in Harlem

obama2Here is a preliminary list of locations to watch the Inauguration in Harlem. If you know of locations not listed please send them to uptownflavor -at- gmail.com.

  • Democracy Prep will be sponsoring a community event at the Harlem Armory at 10 AM inauguration-of-a-dream-event-announcement [PDF]
  • Harlem State Building: Following on the heels of the successful election returns event, HSB will again be rolling out the jumbotrons for the swearing in ceremony.  WBLS will be on the scene broadcasting live from 163 West 125th Street
    just east of Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard (Seventh Avenue) from 10 AM to 2 PM.
  • FB Lounge in East Harlem will have an all-day “Rumba Pa’ Obama” with happy hour drink specials kicks off with the Inauguration Day ceremony being broadcast on their jumbo TV, followed at 6 p.m. by live music. FREE La Fonda Boricua Lounge Bar & Restaurant, 172 E 106th St between Lexington and Third Aves (212-410-7292). Tue 20 at 11am.
  • Camaradas El Barrio restaurant and bar in East Harlem will start its presidential inauguration party at 6 p.m. with music by deejay Ronzilla.
  • Talay welcomes the 44th President with an “It’s a New Day Celebration.” The fun begins at 6 p.m. with free appetizers and happy hour.
  • The Schomburg Center turns on its TVs at 11:30am for the swearing-in ceremony. The lineup includes performances by Yo-Yo Ma, Aretha Franklin and poet Elizabeth Alexander.   • Columbia University will set up a large video screen to show the inauguration live for its students and faculty members. Like the actual event on the Mall in Washington, the campus gathering will take place regardless of the weather unless there are extremely severe conditions.
