What is the future of this former Tire Store?
According to the folks over at Zinc Place Press Blog, it is soon to be a family style Italian restaurant.
The first thought that comes to my mind is safety. Typically auto parts tend to have toxic residue from what I understand. It seems to me that serving food in a place that formerly housed a tire store is questionable at best.
The second thought is, do we really want or need yet another Italian spot? Personally I would love a decent mid-priced Asian restaurant or even a regular ole’ American cafeteria spot where you can get home-style Midwestern food. Brazilian would also be nice. Heck I’d settle for a hofbrau. What kind of food do you find yourself having to leave the neighborhood to eat?

Thanks anon. I will give them a shot. I see that their prices are reasonable enough.
charlie’s, on 5th and 126th, is actually really good. fish is fresh. they have a good steady stream of traffic all day and they dont have a huge variety, which i think allows them to keep things fresh. not the same selection as a fully stocked sushi place but what they do, they do well.
Yeah, I was thinking Japanese also even though there is that one on 5th Avenue near 125th. I’ve never tried them because it seems that there isn’t enough traffic to convince me that the fish is fresh. I would like a nice sit down place like the one in Fort Greene, BK. I would also like a nice sit down Chinese or Thai place.
Hmm…Italian. I would kill for an amazing sushi bar that was in walking distance.
I doubt there’s going to be much left of the inside by the time they’re done tearing it apart, so I’m not sure if the safety concern is warranted.
As for the type of food, I agree a decent mid-priced Asian restaurant would be good to have, but a nice Italian restaurant could be good too.
Now if we can get Trader Joe’s to move in on FDB, we’ll be in business.
