May 3rd to the 9th is National Teacher Appreciation Week and East Harlem, will join communities across the country in honoring the dedicated teachers who work tirelessly to make sure our schools remain the best in our nation.

NYC’s educators invest all of themselves in their work each and everyday. When teachers were asked what would make them feel appreciated, more than half who responded said a simple “thank you” would be the best gift, according to a National Education Association poll.

“Take time during this one week out of the year to thank teachers who have touched the lives of children,” said Clark Pena, East Harlem Event Organizer.

East Harlem will be showing their appreciation for the dedicated service of our educators by holding a Teacher Appreciation Day Celebration on Friday, May 8th 2009 at Raggs Lounge, 101 East 119 Street and Park Avenue beginning at 6 PM. We expect to be joined by parents and elected officials.

“Take a few moments to say “thank you” to the men and women who make sure New York City’s Schools benefit everyone,” said Angela Peralta, Parent.

Let us all participate in Teacher Appreciation Week and recognize teachers for the outstanding work they do in the classroom every day.
