Open em Shut em

There have been a number of new businesses on the horizon, while a number of old-ish business have disappeared in the meantime. Two businesses in the Hamilton Heights area that are trading off are two small restaurants. Oklahoma Smoke  was located on 145th Street near 8th Avenue. Oklahoma Smoke tried to hold on but just couldn’t keep their business going after about 2.5 years in business. They started out strong but as time went on they started to slack off with quality and service.

About a block away on 7th Avenue near 145th Street the long awaited Cheesesteak Factory has finally opened for business.

What are some new or shuttered businesses in your area?

  • There is a new Kumon Math and Reading Center on 7th Ave. between 129th and 130th streets. It opened in December.

  • What the hell is a gospel theme restaurant?

  • I really wanted to like Oklahoma Smoke, but the food just wasn’t happening. Seemingly random days of operation didn’t help either.

The Cheesesteak Factory is good stuff.
The pricing for a combo vs. single sandwich is tricky though – not sure what that’s about.

Tough to beat Jumbo Burger though.

  • They are opening a gospel theme restaurant at the old Pier 2110 site. Soft opening June 12th.
