Jacob's is located on the corner of 129th and Lenox Avenue

Harlem seems to be trading in the old greasy spoon diner for buffets. Last week I mentioned a relatively new buffet on Lenox and 129th Street. While they don’t have as wide a selection as Manna’s they offer the basic selection of soul food favorites seasoned just right. Prices are $4.99 a pound. Check out Jacob Restaurant next time you are in the area.

Manna's on 8th Avenue is open for business again

Speaking of buffets, while I was on 8th Avenue the other day I noticed that Manna’s had reopened in their original location. Does anyone know what kind of deal Mrs. Parks was able to swing to be the only business reopened on that sides of the block?  I am assuming she is still planning the new location up the block at 126th and 8th Avenue and the reopening is just temporary.

Have you forgotten that a Korean Real Estate Firm is in control of all that property. “Family helps Family”

the abolsute best buffet in harlem was charles southern kitchen on frederick douglass blvd between w 151 and w 152. the restaurant has been shuttered for more than a year, since an out-of-control car plowed through the front wall. do you know or can you find out if this harlem mainstay is ever going to re-open?

wow. a year ago when they were put out of that space everyone was protesting on this blog about how the man was destroying harlem business…now they’re back on the outside huh? convenient. not a thing to do with truth….but convenient.

Not sure where you got that tidbit about the out of control car. We posted pictures showing that Charles’ had been seized for not paying taxes.

knit pick alert *** they proudly list food items on the outside of the place. one says, “Curry Crab Dumplings”. I have walked by every day and have NEVER ONCE seen Curry Crab Dumplings in this place, what’s up with that? Sorry, I think this place is a bad idea – since it’s 90% the same as Manna’s.

They should have “flipped the script” far more than Manna’s – meaning you can go further North to similar places that charge by the pound and get a lot more diverse ethnic food fair. I’ve seen and enjoyed food in Washington Heights that is far more interesting and delightful, more diverse and tasty – than Manna’s type of stuff…for the same or less per pound. Would have loved to see that stuff come to Central Harlem.

I don’t like spending Money at Manna’s as it goes OUT OF THE COMMUNITY in a nanosecond – the lion’s share of it….I like spending money that cycles in the community far more times….

Actually the fried dumplings, etc are ordered freshly prepared. The manager will tell you that they don’t put those items on the steam table because they will dry out.

Check out Rack and Soul for food by Charles from Charles’ Southern Fried Chicken. He’s a partner.

Don’t quote me on this but I thought I’d heard that that business relationship dissolved a while away. Rack and Soul even moved into a smaller location off of Broadway. I could be wrong but that is what I remember hearing.

Charles was closed because of its failure to pay taxes, not because of any car crashing into it.
