The best darn carrot cake in Harlem

On June 18, 2009 by D. Bell

lloydsMoist and fresh are just two words to describe the large slice of delicious carrot cake found at Lloyd’s Carrot Cake in East Harlem.

In 1985  Harlem native, Lloyd Adams started developing his secret carrot cake recipe into a plan for a flourishing business. Initially working out of the kitchen of his home, Lloyd began selling his homemade cakes to local restaurants and coffee shops in his Harlem neighborhood. Just two years later Lloyd was finally able to save enough money to open his first store in northern Riverdale, The Bronx.

Sadly, Lloyd passed away on Feb. 1, 2007, however  his wife Betty and his children are continuing the tradition of supplying clients and customers with some of the best baked products in New York.

Lloyd’s offers two choices of carrot cake. A thick slice of cake with nuts and raisins costs $2.75. Without nuts and raisins you will pay $2.25 a slice. Lloyd’s also sells coconut cake and red velvet cake at equally reasonable prices.
