Update: The cafe opening has been further delayed. We’ll let you know when they are certified open.

A few months ago AMNY reported that Muddy Waters Cafe was slated to open on Adam Clayton Powell. Jr. Blvd. after being priced out of Brooklyn.  After a two month delay, the opening date is finally here! Muddy Waters will be opening on June 26, 2009.

Owner Ntozake Lundy will be showcasing up and coming New York artists in the coffee house (with art focusing on the rich history of Harlem), in addition to hosting events for the surrounding community, such as book readings for kids, poetry readings, and various musical and live performances.

The menu at Muddy Waters will include full coffee and espresso offerings from Seattle’s Best,  ciders, hot chocolate, and a variety of teas.  There will also be a full selection of gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfast menu items from cookies from Eleni’s, cheesecake from Umanoff & Parsons, croissants from Ceci Cela, bagels from H&H Bagels, breads from Eli’s Bread, and chocolate from Godiva. All dairy products will be 100% organic and prices are affordable.

Lundy has a longstanding relationship with The Fortune Society, an organization that helps formerly incarcerated individuals re-enter society as productive citizens, and will be hiring individuals referred from The Fortune Society to work in the new cafe.

Muddy Waters is located at 2185 Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard (at 129th Street) and business hours are Monday through Sunday from 6am-10pm. All major credit cards are accepted.
