Muddy Waters Opens New Harlem Cafe
Muddy Waters, a new community oriented coffee bar and cafe, is now open at 129th St and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard. The intimate coffee bar is the first coffee bar and cafe of its type in the neighborhood, and will also offer customers free WiFi internet access.
Muddy Waters owner Ntozake Lundy will also be showcasing up-and-coming New York artists, in addition to hosting various free events for the community, such as book and poetry readings for adults and children, as well as musical and other live performances.
Ntozake Lundy also has a longstanding relationship with The Fortune Society, an organization that helps formerly incarcerated individuals re-enter society, and some of the employees at Muddy Waters will be individuals referred from The Fortune Society.
The menu at Muddy Waters includes full coffee and espresso offerings, additional hot beverages (including ciders, hot chocolate, and various teas), and a full selection of gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfast and dessert items, with several well-respected vendors having goods featured on the menu. Vendors include coffee from Seattle’s Best, teas from Stash, breads from Eli’s Bread, bagels from Zarros, muffins from Grandpa’s Original, croissants from Ceci Cela, cookies from Eleni’s, pastries from Eli Zabar, chocolate from Green and Black, fudge from Yohay, and various other desserts and pies from local NYC vendors. All dairy products will also be 100% organic.
